Meka houses have been built in the United States since the late 1940s, and they are still being built today near Boulder City, Nevada. The houses are commonly referred to as "Meka" or "double-wide" style homes, but have no formal name. Meka homes are usually custom-built on site in a modular fashion. Modularity is the construction of a building from individual units called modules or modules built off site. Each module is constructed in a controlled factory environment to ensure quality of materials and construction methods. The finished product can then be assembled on site by a relatively small crew of workers in only.
